Post-Massage School Update: Emblex Exam, Running, Comedy, Friends and More!

Happy Weekend everyone! I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend so far. I was fortunate to have both Saturday and Sunday off this week and even scheduled a luxurious massage for later today. I can’t wait! I’m going to this spa downtown called Ballaura and am so intrigued to see how it compares to The Valley. After Graduation, I anticipated feeling a bit lost with the end of everything, but it hasn’t been that bad. I actually got to spend an evening with my classmates where we got to know each other on a more intimate level outside of class. I also have two spas in mind that I might like to work and one interview in a couple weeks! I’m still waiting for Department of Health to process my License but am well on my way to being fully licensed 🤗 I do miss everyone at school and miss clinic, but am planning on attending the new student clinic once it starts up within the next month or two. I think I’m still shocked at how quickly it all went by and, being a person who is very indecisive about pretty much everything in my life, by the time I actually warmed up to massage school and my mind adjusted to the change it was graduation time… My mind is still soaking in everything that happened this year and I’m filled with hope, gratitude, love, a little bit of resistance to the changes ahead and bittersweet nostalgia. My classmates and I still keep in touch and will continue to stay connected as we all find our places in our new careers. It’s been great hearing from everyone in my class passing the Emblex Exam as we message each other with updates on a daily basis. I have to say that the day I took my Emblex I was a little stressed, but mostly excited. I had so much support from my family and friends, as they peppered me with good luck messages the hours leading up to the exam. I was more nervous about being turned away because I didn’t have the right ID or some other small infraction. The woman at the front desk almost did turn me away because she wouldn’t take my birth certificate(even though it was the original); so I had a minor panic attack as I started pulling things out of my wallet like a crazy person, hoping to God she didn’t send me away. I ended up having to use my debit card as a second form of ID. Honestly, it was kind of like prison Lol, the way they took my palm prints, looked up my sleeves and made me turn around and empty my pockets; but I made it out unscathed. Honestly, with all the studying I did to prepare for the test, I went in feeling confident but as soon as the test started I immediately lost all sense of belief in myself. The questions were challenging and were completely different from anything I had studied leading up to it. I took my time, using up every last minute I had allotted to me. I finished the test pretty shaky and thought 100% that I had failed. I walked out in a daze, brain-tired and feeling a sense of defeat. I grabbed the piece of paper that held my results and walked straight to the bathroom, where I could look at it without anyone around. When I flipped the piece of paper over and saw the word PASS on the front I couldn’t believe it! I was shocked and immediately started crying. It was a moment I’ll never forget. I can still feel my body shaking as the panic was slowly replaced with relief. I told myself whatever the outcome was I would be having a stiff drink afterwards and luckily it turned out to be a celebratory drink 🍸 I’m taking my time finding my new massage home, as I’ve been enjoying extra time running, being in nature and spending time with the amazing people in my life, who I’m beyond grateful for 💕 I’ve actually been spending more time working at my current job at the salon and even received a raise the other day! I love the fact that my boss is super supportive and that I enjoy working with all my coworkers. We all get along really well and support each other and I’m so thankful that I’m at a place in my life where I enjoy my work as much as my play. A couple other cool things that happened this past two weeks was when my Grandma took me out for a celebratory dinner at Mercatos, where we had champagne and fancy pizza 😋 She also gave me a beautiful card and some money that I’m able to use to treat myself to my massage today! I also went to this really great comedy show last night where I was able to relax, laugh and enjoy the amazing company. The crowd was a blast and I would recommend the Heritage Tumwater Distillery to anyone looking for a new, fun place to check-out! Everything seems to be falling into place and I’m so happy to have amazing people in my life who will always be my reason for success. I love you all and am so very grateful for the love and support I’ve received. I couldn’t have done any of this without you 🥰
